Introduction

The data cables, which are likely to be fiber optics will carry fast wide band material, allowing internet, TV, and other forms of data to be transmitted.

Starting from a position with no old system, we have the capability to provide something very special.

Services

The data cable itself will be run by a trust managed by the companies that use the system, and maintenance funded on an agreed formula basis.

TV

Satellite, internet  or reception by other means will be obtained allowing a very wide range of signals from a large number of TV stations to be received within the kingdom, people on vacation hopefully will be able to view stations they are familiar with. In addition a small number of local stations will be licensed, funded from advertising. The license fee from these TV channels will also fund a public information channel that will keep people informed of what is on and where within the kingdom as well as providing any announcements necessary.

The trust that provides the cable feeds of TV channels will make a small agreed monthly charge per user, and will pay to the state a small license fee for the privilege. Any change in the pricing structure will have to be agreed by the state. We are considering removing both the exclusivity and license fee and allowing competition.

Internet

Internet and other data services will also be able to be connected via the data network to licensed suppliers. If the trust that provides the TV signals also wishes to provide internet connections it can do so but at the average price of all other suppliers. This stops it from using fees from TV delivery to subsidize other services.

Telephones

Fixed telephones we would expect to be fed from the same system as internet connections, with low cost connections world wide.

Mobile telephones are a more difficult problem in that our island structures may present some difficulty for signals, in the same way as many mobile phones don't work in many buildings. We propose to find a solution to this that quite possibly may include a loop system through structures, or larger numbers of very low power aerials spread thought islands. We are aware of some peoples concerns as to health risk with radio signals to mobile phones so this is an area still being looked at.

Other data

The data for the post tube system, weather information and control information between parts of the services and infrastructure will also run through the data cables.

Reserve

With so much going through the data cables, we are aware that they may become critical if a fault occurs. For this reason the standard interface has a reserve cable that can be switched over.

Working on a spiral, with feeds through islands, a break could knock out a number of islands. The reserve cable means that the worst situation should be an island out for a short period while the problem is overcome. We will however consider designs that allow both cables to be used, but fallback will allow through signals to run on a single cable.
